The first human in space was Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut who orbited the Earth on April 12, 1961. The United States achieved the first manned moon landing on July 20, 1969, with the Apollo 11 mission.

Since then, numerous countries have launched satellites and space missions for various purposes, including scientific research, telecommunications, and military applications.
